Tsunami Evacuation "Drill" sign

Pocket camera picture of a road sign for the upcoming Tsunami Evacuation Drill, found about 1 mile from my home.

Unfortunately, I think the drill is kind of pointless for us. Look at it this way: In the predicted Pacific coast megaquake, we would have maybe 10 minutes or so to escape to high ground. Problem 1: High ground is about 2 miles away. Problem 2: They predict that the roads will be destroyed/unpassable when the megaquake happens.

I suppose they mean well but these drills fall into the same general category as the cold war era "Duck and Cover" nuclear drills from the 60's: Designed to make you feel better not actually save anyone.

The third, unphotographed screen says "Watch For Pedestrians" ...yeah.

Every camera made these days has some sort of close-up/macro ability although it varies quite a bit depending on the model. My waterproof Fujifilm XP10 focuses down to about 3.5 inches. This picture was taken with a Nikon P7000, a nice pocket camera with a minimum focal distance of just .8 inches. Yes, eight tenths of an inch. It also has a manual focus option (which I used in this case) and a few other features that help get the shot. You certainly don't need a 5k camera weenie setup for shots like this.

Pocket camera photo of some rather forlorn flowers... hope is fading. Around my area, this has been one of the coldest springs on record. The flowers have no choice but to try to live, of course. More the pity....Everything is chance in life, and sometimes you just lose. Sad to say.

The seagull was just taking off when I pressed the "shutter" button on my crappy old VGA cell phone camera: By the time it actually scanned the picture, the gull was almost out of the frame.

Isn't that how life really is? You see something and you go for it, but you're half a second too late.

And of course, all of life is lived in Lo-Res, really: We don't see ten percent of what's really there. We can't.
